Working together for success! Peer mentoring (workshop)

winter term 2019-20

Peer mentoring is the regular exchange of professional challenges with colleagues. The sharing of experiences and the exchange with peers is the core of the format peer mentoring and enables professional reflection beyond competition. The aim of the workshop is to enable the participants to advise each other independently and solution-oriented on the typical challenges of their everyday lives (e.g. doctorate, teaching, research). In addition, fixed groups are to be established, who will be able to meet self-organized for peer mentoring in the future.

Trainer:
Dr. Neela Enke, Science Coaching Enke Zimmermann, Board Coachingnetz Wissenschaft e.V.

Language of the workshop:
English

Content of the workshop:
Peer mentoring can be a success factor in the professional development of one's own professional role(s). Especially in the competitive environment of everyday scientific work, collegial exchange is an important space for reflection. In the workshop, various concepts for peer mentoring in the field of scientific institutions will be presented and tested. The aim of these techniques is to provide solution-oriented feedback on the individual challenges of the participants and at the same time to ensure that everyone has their say. In the workshop, suitable questions are developed for each participant, since the appropriate question is a central aspect of success in collegial consultation. Basics of communication, question techniques and group dynamics are presented in a practice-oriented way. In addition to teaching methods and techniques for peer counselling, the possibilities and limits of this collegial counselling format will also be discussed. The ideal group size for peer mentoring is between 5 and 8 persons. Experience has shown that it is helpful to assemble the groups according to status groups or concerns, whereas the professional orientation plays a subordinate role; many participants report that although there are doubts at first about an interdisciplinary composition, this was perceived as enormously enriching in the course of peer mentoring. The workshop also serves to put together groups and to get to know the peer mentoring groups among each other.
