winter term 2017-18
Dear Doctoral Candidates, Postdocs and Partners, Join us for a day of contrasts in the Saxony Anhalt – Saxony border region! Wolfen, part of Bitterfeld, which forms a corner of the “Chemical Triangle” region, was for 85 years the site for the second largest film factory in the world. It now boasts the only existing museum that shows the processes and original machines involved in making film – the base material for all films and photographs before digitalization. Our tour guide at the “Industrie- und Filmmuseum Wolfen”, the museum’s director, will give us some extra context about what it was like to work in the film factory. Interesting detail: in the 1970s, it had the largest female workforce in the GDR (8,000 women, 60% of the factory’s total workforce). Come along to learn some more about the industrial and social history of this region. There is a special tour in English for our group – and a standard German-language tour offered at the same time. Delitzsch is a pretty little town between Wolfen, Leipzig and Halle which served as a holiday and widows’ residence to the electors of the Duchy of Saxe-Merseburg in the 17th and 18th centuries. Our main reason for visiting: its lovely baroque castle, also called “Damenschloss” (Ladies’ Castle), and the insights into baroque culture and lifestyle which our tour guide will give. Delitzsch is also our stop for lunch together! Your participation fee of 10,00 € will cover the train fare, entry to the museum and castle, respective guided tours and lunch. Date: Saturday, 27th January 2018 Meeting Point: Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof at 8.30 am sharp Return: leaving Delitzsch at approx. 5 pm, arriving at Halle (Saale) Hauptbahnhof around 5.45 pm You will receive an email with more details in the week of the excursion IMPORTANT: Please state whether you are an enrolled student at MLU. IMPORTANT: According to DAAD guidelines the excursion can only take place if at least 20 foreigners participate personally on 27 January 2018. So, we hope for at least 20 registrations/participations. Please, only register if you really want to participate and transfer the fee immediately to the bank account mentioned in Contactus until 18 January 2018. As, according to experience, it can take some time until we receive the money on our account, so we kindly ask you to send us a payment document via e-mail. If you pay and do not show up on the day of the excursion, we will consider this as non-attendance. If despite registration and transfer of the participation fee, .e.g. you get ill or cannot take part for other reasons, you are obligated to inform us in written form / per e-mail. In that case, we will try to give your place to someone else in order to guarantee the taking place of the excursion and to meet the DAAD guidelines. If the excursion cannot take place due to a small number of registrations, we will inform you immediately. ACCIDENT INSURANCE: Please note that this counts as a private trip. You are not insured via the university or the PhD Network during the trip. Enjoy taking a new perspective in Wolfen and Delitzsch! We look forward to lots of registrations :) Your PhD Network Team P.S. If you have registered and only got a place on the waiting list, please do not transfer the participation fee.
